Could You Do More to Make a Better First Impression?
Knowing that you only get one chance to make a first impression, would you say you do it the correct way?
From meeting someone on a job interview to a first date and more, making a good first impression is key.
So, what steps might you take to improve the first impressions you give others?
Does Your Appearance Send the Wrong Message?
In looking at how you can improve the first impressions you make, keep the focus on these things:
1. Employment – Whether on an interview or your first day of work in a new job, do your best to show people what you got. This not only means the skills that you can bring to a position but also your personality. If you go into the situation with a negative attitude, chances are it will come back to bite you. The same goes for your appearance. For example, if you are a guy with facial hair going on an interview or beginning the first day, look the part. Going in looking all scruffy does not work to your advantage. Take the time to get your beard, goatee or mustache looking good. One option if your current shaving accessories are not doing the trick is to find something else. You can use the Internet to research and see are shave clubs worth it. By joining a shave club, you could be a step closer to finding the best equipment for your facial hair needs. Speaking of needs, also don’t forget to dress the part when going on an interview in particular. If you show up as if you only rolled out of your bed five minutes ago, you already put yourself behind the eight ball.
2. Dating – Are you out there in the dating world or thinking of getting into it? If the answer is yes, it is important to make a good first impression on people you meet up with. That said your appearance is but one of the things you need to focus on. Also make it a point to bring a positive attitude to any meet up or even initial discussions via email or on the phone. If you come across as much too negative, chances are high the date will not work out. It is also important to know what you want out of the dating world. If you sound confused or lead people on, your dating prospects will dwindle rather fast.
3. School – Is it time to head off to a new school experience? If so, it is wise to make a good first impression on other students and teachers. Doing this will increase the chances of making friends sooner rather than later. You will have not enough pressure in school as you would with a job to succeed. As such, having a support staff around you is important. When people see you make a good first impression, chances are better they could be in your life for years to come.
As you work on doing a better job of making a better first impression, how much work do you expect it to take?
